1. Agreement
These Terms of Use govern your use of the DateCompass mobile app and related services operated by Brandon Hatch, doing business as DateCompass. By using DateCompass, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old to use DateCompass. If you are 16 or 17, you must have a parent or guardian's permission where applicable and be able to agree to these Terms under applicable law. Do not use DateCompass if you are under 16.
3. Service changes
DateCompass may update, change, or discontinue features as the service develops. We handle personal information as described in the Privacy Policy and applicable law.
4. What DateCompass provides
DateCompass offers date-activity discovery, recommendations, local saving and planning, checklists, reminders, curated Date Coach guidance, and manual or location-assisted planning features. Features requiring connectivity or device permissions are available only when those requirements are met. Recommendations are suggestions, not guarantees that an activity, venue, offer, weather condition, or relationship outcome will suit you.
5. Responsibility and safety
Use your judgment about whether an activity is appropriate for your abilities, health, location, weather, equipment, companions, and circumstances. Follow venue rules, local laws, safety and equipment instructions, and any activity-specific age restrictions. Do not use DateCompass while driving or while distracted from your surroundings. Verify important venue, route, cost, availability, and weather information with appropriate sources. DateCompass does not replace professional medical, legal, financial, mental-health, relationship, emergency, or safety advice.
6. Date Coach
Date Coach provides curated guidance for general informational and entertainment purposes. It does not know the full context of your relationship or circumstances. You remain responsible for your decisions, communication, consent, boundaries, and safety. Do not use it to pressure, manipulate, deceive, harass, or disregard another person's wishes.
7. Accounts and local use
Email/password registration is optional. You can browse, use Date Coach, save and plan locally, and use manual or permitted location features without registering. When Firebase is available, DateCompass automatically creates an anonymous cloud identity for limited authenticated features. That identity can submit date ideas and private feedback/activity reports. A registered account enables eligible cloud backup and synchronization and in-app provider-profile submission. If you create or use a registered account, safeguard your credentials and contact northstarapp.support@gmail.com if you believe it has been compromised. Both guests with an anonymous identity and registered users can delete their account-linked cloud data in the app; device-only data is deleted separately.
8. Premium and billing
Paid subscriptions are not enabled in the current production version.
9. Third-party information
Activity, venue, and offer details may change and may be unverified, unavailable, or out of date. Third-party businesses and services control their own information and terms. Verify details before making plans or purchases.
10. Acceptable use
Do not misuse DateCompass, interfere with security or operation, attempt unauthorized access, submit unlawful or abusive content, use automation to overload the service, impersonate others, or use the service to facilitate harassment, stalking, discrimination, fraud, exploitation, or illegal activity.
11. DateCompass intellectual property
DateCompass's software, design, text, curated content, branding, and owned or licensed visual assets are protected by applicable law. These Terms grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use DateCompass for its intended purpose.
12. Submissions and private feedback
You retain ownership of the date ideas, provider-profile information, and other content you submit, subject to rights held by others. You represent that you have the rights and permissions needed to submit that content, including any business, venue, or contact information. For a date idea or provider listing that you submit for possible publication, you grant DateCompass a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license, limited to the rights reasonably needed to receive, store, review, reproduce, edit for formatting or clarity without materially changing its meaning, and, if approved, publish, display, and distribute that content within DateCompass and in materials promoting DateCompass or the approved idea or listing. DateCompass may use service providers to carry out these purposes on its behalf. Private contact details supplied for review will not be published under this license unless you separately authorize their publication. This license lasts while the approved content is used for those purposes, subject to applicable law and any separate written agreement. Submitting content does not guarantee approval, publication, a listing, a partnership, or compensation.
Private feedback and activity reports are submitted for support, safety, and product improvement. They are not intended for public display or promotion under the publication license above. DateCompass handles personal information in all submissions as described in the Privacy Policy.
13. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or terminate access for security, abuse, legal compliance, operational needs, or violation of these Terms. You may stop using the app at any time. Both anonymously authenticated guests and registered users can delete account-linked cloud data in the app as described on the Data Deletion page. Device-only data must be removed separately.
14. Disclaimers
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, DATECOMPASS IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” We disclaim warranties not expressly required by law, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, availability, and fitness of any recommendation or activity.
15. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, DateCompass will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits, goodwill, or opportunities arising from use of the service. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; these limits apply only to the extent permitted by law.
16. Applicable law and jurisdiction
DateCompass is operated by Brandon Hatch, doing business as DateCompass, in Utah, United States. To the extent permitted by applicable law, these Terms are governed by Utah law. Disputes may be brought in courts of competent jurisdiction in Utah, without limiting nonwaivable consumer protections or any forum required by applicable law.
17. Changes
We may update these Terms. Material changes may be communicated through the app or this hosted Terms page.
